Until now, every pair of stores in Cartsella Studio was live → test: a live store and the staging store that mirrors it. Merchants kept asking for something else too — copy the live store into another live store, once, and then let each store go its own way. That's an expansion store.
How it works
- Install Cartsella Studio on your live store and on the new store.
- On the live store, get the pairing code. On the new store, enter it and choose “An expansion store”. The store that receives the copy decides what it is — nothing connects on one side's word.
- Start a clone. The new store gets your catalog and content, with products, collections and menus still connected.
Copies only, never syncs
A test store is meant to match your live store, so it syncs. An expansion store is meant to become its own shop — different prices, different copy, a different language — so it only receives clones: no syncs, no schedules, no continuous sync. When you want a fresh copy, clone again.
The same safeguards
- Your live store is only read. Cloning never writes to it.
- Customers and orders stay put. Customers, orders and draft orders are never copied.
- Nothing is lost without a backup. If you choose to remove records that exist only in the new store, they're backed up first and can be restored.
- Apps and settings, listed. No app can install another app or change currency and taxes, so after the clone you get the apps to install and the store settings to match.
